Julian Draxler: The Future Of German Football

Wolfsburg's Draxler plays the ball against CSKA Moscow during their Champions League group B soccer match in Wolfsburg

When it was announced that Wolfsburg star midfielder Kevin de Bruyne would be signing for Manchester City last summer, there was a lot of speculation as to who would fill the void left by the Bundesliga reigning assist king. That call was answered by 22 year old World Cup winning German midfielder Julian Draxler.

Draxler broke onto the scene with FC Schalke prior to becoming Wolfsburg club record signing at an estimated 25.5 million pound deal. So far this season, Draxler has made 19 appearances, scoring 5 goals and creating 32 chances.

With his ability to play on the wing and centrally, he makes himself very accessible to managers. His pace, ball control, passing, vision, and flair makes him a fantastic player. When he grows a little in his feet, he’ll be the Dimitri Payet of Wolfsburg. He’s the type of player every team needs. He is the player the play has to go through, and when it does it’s gold!

At 22 years old and already having Bundesliga, Champions League, and World Cup experience under your belt, the future is guaranteed to look bright. An exciting prospect whose name we’ll be hearing a lot more about in the years to come.
